Surge anticipating valve

Water Hammer Prevents Valve (Pressure Surge Prevents Valve) is a hydraulically operated automatic control valve, installed in bypass on the pump outlet pipeline. It adopts dual pilot valves to sense pipeline pressure changes. Upon pump shutdown and negative pressure occurrence, it opens in advance for water discharge to prevent column separation and rejoining which causes catastrophic water hammer. Meanwhile, it provides overpressure relief protection. Requiring no external power supply, it features quick opening and slow closing without secondary water hammer during valve closure. It is applied for water hammer protection in pipeline systems of municipal water supply, long-distance water conveyance and irrigation pump stations, safeguarding the safety of pipelines, pumps and associated equipment.

The water hammer anticipating valve is a purely hydraulically operated automatic control valve requiring no external power supply. It is

installed in bypass on pump outlet pipelines, specially designed to prevent destructive water hammer caused by water column rejoining

under emergency pump shutdown due to sudden power failure at pump stations. It serves as dedicated water hammer protection

equipment for long-distance water conveyance systems.

The valve consists of a main valve, low-pressure sensing pilot valve, high-pressure relief pilot valve, control piping, filter and regulating

needle valve. When the pump operates normally, the valve remains closed in standby status. In case of abrupt pump stoppage, pressure drop inside the pipeline generates a negative pressure signal. The low-pressure pilot valve senses this signal and opens the main

valve in advance, opening the discharge passage before the arrival of the high-pressure water hammer wave to release the impact

energy of reverse flow and restrain the ultra-high pressure induced by water column rejoining. If the pipeline pressure exceeds the preset

protection value, the high-pressure relief pilot valve operates simultaneously to assist pressure relief. After pipeline pressure stabilizes,

the main valve closes slowly at a preset rate with gentle movement, without generating secondary water hammer impact.

Product Features

1.Pre-emptive Surge Protection:

It captures the negative pressure signal upon pump shutdown and opens in advance to suppress water column-rejoining water

hammer at the source, differing from ordinary overpressure relief valves.

2.Hydraulic Operation:

Fully hydraulically controlled. It can operate normally under power failure conditions and is suitable for scenarios of sudden power outage at pump stations.

3.Dual Protection:

Integrates both negative pressure prevention and overpressure relief functions. A single valve realizes water hammer protection.

4.Adjustable Opening & Closing:

The opening pressure and valve closing speed can be commissioned on-site to adapt to various pipeline working conditions.

5.Reliable Performance:

The main valve closes tightly with no leakage during normal water conveyance. It operates smoothly without impact and features a long service life.

Applicable Medium and Scope of Application

Medium: Clean water (for water containing sediment, a pre-filter device is recommended).

Application Scenarios: Municipal water supply pump stations, long-distance water conveyance projects, agricultural irrigation pump

stations, high-rise building water supply and fire water conveyance systems, for water hammer protection of centrifugal pump pipelines.
